12 Hopes and Wishes HSC Body of Work |
When researching information for my HSC body of work, I was intrigued by the significance of the Chinese Zodiac animals, the new year paper crafts and its overarching connection between culture and people. The animals follow a repeating twelve year cycle in which each year is assigned to an animal. Symbolically, the animals obtain distinct characteristics which is believed to be conveyed upon those who are born in the corresponding year. Further, the traditional value of the red paper crafts was to demonstrate one's aspirations for the coming year which again can be reflected back towards the animals and their desirable attributes.

Walt Disney Concert Hall by Frank Gehry
The Walt Disney Concert Hall designed by Frank Gehry opened its doors on the 24th of October 2003 after undergoing sixteen years of construction, with its initial funding being donated by the Disney family as a tribute to Walt Disney's popular culture legacy. With the intention to function as an arena for classical music, the hall reduces the implied social hierarchy that is related to the elevated seating plan of regular musical halls. This was stated by the former director of the Los Angelos Philharmonic, an orchestra that regularly rehearses and performs within the hall. The concert hall's unique acoustics were a key component to the overall final design of the space as Gehry collaborated with Yasuhisa Toyota to perfect the acoustical system of the hall in order for sound to increase in frequency as it permeates and reflects off the renowned concave walls.

Warner Bros Studios, Los Angelos
Warner Bros Studios is an icon of the film industry founded in 1923 and is the origin of a wide range of popular films, tv series and video games. In the photo above, it displays the immersive world of the studio as the movie and tv show sets still remain in its original condition. These exterior sets are constantly utilised as they can emulate recognisable environments with the means to construct recognisable settings for audiences. One of the most common techniques used to establish a specific time period in film is through lighting fixtures such as light bulbs, candles, etc. on or near buildings hence the location in which these lights would reside are always vacant in order to facilitate the rapid changing of time periods in various films.
