A few words...

Within the two images, a clear motif in which I wanted to convey when designing the model was openness and connectedness to nature within a world of development and innovation.  This is achieved in the lack infrastructure, specifically in the small number of enclosed walls thus there is a free flowing circulation throughout the entirety of the datum, upper and lower levels. Additionally, the glass further promotes a sense of clarity on the upper levels as the material allows for sun to shine as well as reflect. The hero shot also previews partial areas of the lower levels which is accessed by a rock climbing inspired stair, surrounded by a flowing water feature that leads to a platform of semi-circular spaces. Hence it exudes a connection to nature and an organic identity catered to the client.

The datum and upper level is depicted in the detailed shot where the use of materials such as concrete, wood and glass convey a simple and minimalistic tone to the building which complements the innovation of the client as well as provide a large space that accommodates the brand's similar versatility. The incorporation of trees generate a sanctuary-like atmosphere that allows for an overall peaceful and immersive experience.

Video on Glass as a Structural Material:
In my SketchUp model, the possibility of glass as a main structural material is an aspect of creating the overall openness and simplistic nature of the overall building while still maintaining a sculpturesque facade.

THE STAIRS

Week 2
The Stairs

Stairs by definition refer to a series of surfaces that lead from one level to another. As seen through the figures below, the stairs successfully transfer one from a base to a level above and another to a level below. With inspiration from rock climbing walls and the idea of irregular slanted surface, the designed stairs present a more immersive path and experience. In figure 1, the stairs planks are set at a diagonal plane where each step is alternating in slant hence the walker’s balance and orientation is never fully straight but instead tilted at an angle while walking up these stairs. As a result, it promotes a sense of rush as one would want to quickly walk up or down the stairs. Figure 2 , similarly generates a sense of caution as there is no flat surfaces present and individuals must choose their own path up or down the stairs similar to that when rock climbing. Each step is shaped differently to mirror the appearance of climbing steps where there are a variety of large and small steps. Further, the ramp surface in which the steps sit on also provide an alternative labyrinth-like path to the steps.
